What you will do:

  • Lead and manage reporting lines, including Assistant Team Managers, to ensure effective delivery of child protection services.
  • Oversee the duty service within your area, ensuring high standards are consistently met.
  • Develop and implement the Team Business Plan, aligning with organisational objectives.
  • Support social workers through supervision, attending conferences, reviews, and key meetings as needed.
  • Lead recruitment and staff selection processes, including chairing recruitment panels.
  • Handle formal processes related to disciplinary, grievance, and change management.
  • Actively contribute to the Management Team, participating in meetings and strategy discussions.
  • Manage, allocate, and monitor team workload, ensuring work is distributed fairly and effectively.
  • Flexibly support staff, providing management coverage where required, even outside of core hours.
  • Maintain oversight of staff safety, ensuring risk assessments are completed and implemented.
  • Represent the Local Authority in formal settings such as Family and Criminal Courts.
  • Chair complex case professionals meetings and make key decisions regarding individual children and young people.
  • Ensure statutory safeguarding responsibilities are fulfilled and child care plans are implemented and reviewed efficiently.
  • Engage in service development and quality assurance, partnering with external agencies and organisations.
  • Monitor the quality of social work practice, promoting high standards and performing case file audits.
  • Manage budgets responsibly, promote value for public funds, and ensure GDPR compliance with information handling.
