Children’s Social Worker – Assessment & Safeguarding (Locum)
Location: Darlington (Hybrid – Town Hall base, DL1 5QT)
Pay Rate: £21.70 per hour PAYE | £27.56 per hour Umbrella
Contract: Temporary | Full-Time (37 hours per week)
Start Date: 01 June 2026
End Date: 31 August 2026

Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join the Assessment & Safeguarding Service within Darlington Borough Council. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled practitioner who is confident managing a varied and fast-paced caseload across early intervention, safeguarding, and children in care.

This role sits within a supportive and relationship-based practice environment, where you will work closely with children, families, and partner agencies to deliver timely and effective interventions. The service benefits from strong integrated support, including targeted family support services and Family Group Conference provision.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload including Child & Family Assessments, Children in Need, and Child Protection cases
• Progress cases involving Children in Care and some public/private law proceedings
• Undertake assessments, risk analysis, and care planning in line with statutory guidance
• Work directly with children and families using a relational practice approach
• Participate in strategy discussions, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings
• Maintain accurate and timely case recordings and reports
• Contribute to safeguarding decision-making and child protection planning
• Collaborate closely with partner agencies and internal support services
• Support families through intervention, planning, and review processes

Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England
• Experience working within Children’s Services, ideally across safeguarding and assessment
• Strong understanding of child protection legislation and statutory responsibilities
• Ability to manage a varied and complex caseload effectively
• Excellent communication, assessment, and analytical skills
• Experience working in multi-agency environments
• Full UK driving licence preferred
