What you will do:
- Act as an independent Chairperson in various reviews including Looked after Reviews, Child Protection Conferences, and more.
- Communicate effectively with children, young people, and their families.
- Ensure the local authority considers the child’s views.
- Bring in your extensive social work experience in children’s social care.
- Collaborate constructively with senior managers, offering critical perspectives and appropriate challenge.
- Apply your understanding of the Care Planning Regulations, legal frameworks, and National Minimum Standards.
- Navigate the legal process involved when a local authority makes a care order application.
- Develop quality assurance mechanisms for compliance with local and national safeguarding procedures.
- Connect with social workers and team managers to enhance care planning and practice.
- Participate actively in Local Safeguarding Children’s Board processes and other service development functions.
- Establish systems ensuring appropriate Permanency Plans for children within the Looked After System.
- Offer specialist advice, information, and guidance on policy, procedures, and legislation.
- Engage with corporate activities as determined by the Head of Service.

Requirements of the Independent Reviewing Officer:
- Degree or equivalent in social work.
- Current Social Work England registration.
- Significant frontline experience in Social Services within the UK working as a qualified Social Worker.
