What you will do:

• Manage a caseload of children and young people in the care of Newham Council, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and developmental needs are met.

• Conduct statutory visits, assessments, and reviews in accordance with legislation, regulations, and local authority procedures.

• Develop, implement, and review comprehensive care plans tailored to the individual needs of each child.

• Promote permanence planning, including reunification, long-term fostering, kinship care, special guardianship, and adoption.

• Ensure the wishes, feelings, and views of children and young people are central to assessment, planning, and decision-making processes.

• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive case records using the council's case management systems.

• Identify and assess risks, taking appropriate safeguarding action to protect children and young people.

• Participate in strategy discussions, placement stability meetings, safeguarding meetings, and other multi-agency forums.

• Prepare high-quality reports for Looked After Children Reviews, court proceedings, and other statutory meetings.

• Work closely with Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs) to ensure effective care planning and statutory compliance.

• Support and facilitate transition planning for young people moving towards independence and adulthood.

• Build effective working relationships with foster carers, residential care providers, families, schools, health professionals, and partner agencies.

• Represent the best interests of children through assessments, reports, statements, and attendance at court proceedings where required.

• Deliver strengths-based, relationship-focused social work practice that promotes resilience and positive outcomes.

• Participate in supervision, appraisal, professional development activities, and service improvement initiatives.
