A new opportunity has arisen for an Import Customs Clerk for our client based in Essex, who specialise in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Logistics.
Reporting directly to the Director, the Import Customs Clerk will be focusing on UK customs processes, primarily import clearances, ensuring compliance and supporting the Operations and Sales teams. The purpose of the role is to help increase profit within the department by ensuring files are processed accurately, efficiently, and in line with legislation and company procedures.
What you'll do:
As Import Customs Clerk you will be managing UK customs clearance requests on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the company remains compliant and operates within their AEO accreditation. You will work closely with internal teams to arrange and monitor import shipments by sea, overland and air services, liaising with suppliers and partners to deliver a high level of service to the company's clients, ensuring expectations are met and exceeded where possible.
Import Customs Clerk duties include:
- Maintaining and developing relationships with clients, reacting promptly and proactively to client requests, always providing excellent customer service.
- Developing good working relationships with client accounts and internal departments.
- Processing import customs entries using CDS, ensuring accuracy of data, supporting documents and tariff classifications where required.
- Ensuring compliance with UK customs procedures and legislative requirements, in line with AEO standards and internal processes.
- Meeting deadlines and client requirements by monitoring suppliers and partners.
- Monitoring supplier performance and escalating issues where required.
- Maintaining accurate file management and attention to detail in accordance with procedure, ensuring operational standards are achieved.
- Supporting with quotations where required, in accordance with client requests and company policy.
- Encouraging and implementing "Best Practice" across the department.
- Developing and maintaining a commercial and "can do" attitude with all within the department and company.
- Ensuring shipments are costed and invoiced in accordance with company policy.
- Supporting senior management as and when required.
- Ensuring invoice queries are resolved promptly.
What you need:
We're keen to speak to people with solid knowledge of customs clearance procedures, CDS and compliance, and a strong general understanding of transport and legislative controls. Knowledge of ASM Sequoia would be a distinct advantage but is not essential.
Applicants should also have good mathematical skills and be able to adapt, embrace and implement new IT systems and IT innovations. You should have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and be organised by nature.
In return, the successful Import Customs Clerk will be offered a salary of up to £28,000, in line with experience.
