Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join Children’s Services in the vibrant and diverse borough of Hackney. This ongoing full-time locum role offers the chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of children in care by ensuring their voices are heard and that their care plans meet the highest possible standards.
As an Independent Reviewing Officer, you will play a critical role in quality assurance, safeguarding, and corporate parenting, providing independent oversight and challenge to ensure that the local authority meets its statutory responsibilities and that children receive the best possible care and outcomes.

What You Will Do

Chair statutory reviews for children in care, ensuring their wishes and feelings are central to all planning and decision-making.

Review and monitor care plans, providing independent scrutiny and challenge to ensure compliance with statutory duties and best practice.

Track progress against care plans and ensure drift and delay are challenged appropriately.

Work collaboratively with social workers, managers, families, carers, and multi-agency professionals to promote the best possible outcomes for children.

Escalate concerns where children’s needs are not being met or where plans are not progressing appropriately.

Act as a strong advocate for children’s rights and ensure the local authority fulfils its corporate parenting responsibilities.

Maintain accurate, high-quality records and reports in line with statutory and local requirements.

Contribute to service improvement through identifying themes, trends, and areas for development.
