Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Social Workers to join our countywide Adult Learning Disability Team in Northumberland. This is an excellent opportunity to work within an innovative, supportive service focused on collaboration and delivering high-quality outcomes for adults with learning disabilities.

Based at Eddie Ferguson House in Blyth, this ongoing locum role offers flexible working options including part-time or full-time hours, as well as hybrid working. You will manage your own caseload with the support of experienced practitioners and a dedicated Team Manager, while working closely with specialist health partners across the county.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a complex and varied caseload of adults with learning disabilities, advocating for positive outcomes.

  • Undertake assessments of service users and carers, developing comprehensive and person-centred support plans.

  • Identify, assess, and manage risk using evidence-based approaches, reviewing and updating plans as required.

  • Use social work tools, research, and best practice to support hospital discharges and community-based living.

  • Build strong relationships with individuals, families, and multi-agency partners, providing direct support during crisis situations.

  • Apply local thresholds and manage case transitions appropriately while maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.

  • Support and mentor less experienced colleagues, contributing to a positive team culture.

  • Engage in supervision, training, and continuous professional development to maintain high standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Social Work.

  • Registration with Social Work England.

  • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities.

  • Strong assessment, care planning, and risk management skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
