Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Social Worker to join the Children & Families Team in Devon.
This ongoing locum role offers a competitive hourly rate of £38.00 and the flexibility to work part time or full time, allowing you to balance your professional and personal commitments.
In this role, you will deliver high-quality, child-centred statutory social work to children and families across Devon. You will work with Children in Need, children subject to Child Protection Plans, and Children in Care, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and long-term outcomes in line with Devon County Council policies and statutory guidance.

What You Will Do

Manage a caseload of children and families, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and best practice standards.

Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989 and 2004.

Develop, implement, and review Child in Need plans, Child Protection plans, and Care Plans for Children in Care.

Lead safeguarding interventions and carry out Section 47 enquiries where required.

Prepare high-quality reports for child protection conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.

Carry out direct work with children and families to assess risk, identify needs, and support sustainable change.

Work collaboratively with families, carers, and partner agencies including Health, Police, and Education.

Participate in strategy discussions, planning meetings, and multi-agency forums.

Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality case records, ensuring practice is child-focused and culturally competent.

Engage in regular supervision, training, and continuous professional development to continually improve practice.
Requirements
Essential
-
Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and registered with Social Work England.

Recent experience working in Children’s Services within a statutory setting.

Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, Children Act frameworks, and statutory guidance.

Ability to manage complex cases, assess risk, and make sound professional judgements.

Excellent communication, recording, and report-writing skills.
