Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Social Worker to join the Mental Health Social Care Team in Kingston and Richmond.

This is a full-time, ongoing locum position paying £36.00 per hour, offering hybrid working with a balance between home working and office-based team days at Twickenham Civic Centre.

You will work within a dedicated Mental Health Social Care Team, supporting adults aged 18–75 with severe and enduring mental health needs. This role sits outside of the clinical CMHT, allowing you to focus purely on statutory social work practice. The team is seeking someone with at least two years post-qualifying experience in complex adult mental health work.

What You Will Do

  • Complete Care Act assessments and reviews for adults with complex mental health needs.

  • Undertake Mental Capacity Assessments and best interest decision-making.

  • Complete Carers Assessments to ensure appropriate support is in place.

  • Manage s42 safeguarding enquiries and associated protection planning.

  • Prepare Mental Health Tribunal Social Circumstances Reports.

  • Work using a strengths-based approach, promoting independence and recovery.

  • Participate in duty work, responding to urgent and emerging cases.

  • Work collaboratively with health, housing, and other partner agencies.


What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in Social Work.

  • Registered with Social Work England.

  • Minimum 2 years post-qualifying experience in Adult Mental Health.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding procedures.

  • Experience managing complex caseloads.

  • Confident in assessment, report writing, and multi-agency working.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a Local Authority Mental Health Social Care Team.

  • Experience writing tribunal or court reports.
