Civil Design Engineer

Salary: £40,000 – £60,000
Location: Hertfordshire (Hybrid working)
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 40 hours per week

The Vacancy

Are you a skilled civil engineer with a passion for designing sustainable infrastructure? We are seeking a Civil Design Engineer to join a growing design team delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater treatment projects.

As a key member of the design function, you will be responsible for coordinating, reviewing, and developing civil design packages, ensuring solutions meet project requirements, buildability expectations, and regulatory standards.

You will lead the civil design scope across multiple projects, manage external consultants, liaise directly with clients, and ensure designs integrate effectively with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines. Your involvement will span feasibility assessments, technical documentation, design risk reviews, and support through construction, helping to deliver efficient, safe, and cost‑effective solutions throughout the full project lifecycle.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a technically strong engineer with design leadership experience and a collaborative mindset. You’ll enjoy working in a multidisciplinary environment and contributing to sustainable, practical, and innovative design solutions.

Skills & Knowledge

Strong leadership and coordination skills, including managing external consultants

Ability to collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams

Detail‑focused, analytical, and proactive approach to problem‑solving

Excellent communication skills and commitment to continuous professional development

Experience

5+ years’ experience in civil design engineering, ideally within water or wastewater

Proven experience developing civil works packages, including earthworks, foundations, structures, and drainage

Strong understanding of construction methods, buildability, and relevant engineering standards

Qualifications

Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline

Proficiency in civil design software (e.g. AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit)

Understanding of BIM processes and collaborative design workflows
