We are seeking an experienced and driven Waste Compliance Officer to join a critical compliance and contracts team supporting Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) operations across Cumbria. This field‑based role plays a vital part in ensuring contractual, regulatory, and operational compliance across multiple sites. Working closely with the Subcontracts Manager and operational colleagues, you'll provide expert oversight, practical guidance, and assurance within a demanding and highly regulated waste environment. This is an opportunity to join a long‑term public service contract with clear scope for development into a senior or broader contracts role over time.
The Waste Compliance Officer will be responsible for:
- Monitoring, maintaining, and reporting on compliance with waste contracts, SLAs, PPIs, and permit conditions across all HWRC sites
- Managing and overseeing contractor performance, ensuring contractual and operational standards are consistently met
- Undertaking regular, hands‑on site visits to engage with operations, identify issues, and support compliance improvement
- Collecting, interpreting, and analysing waste data and flows, providing clear and accurate information to internal and external stakeholders
The Waste Compliance Officer will have:
- Proven experience within waste management, HWRC operations, environmental compliance, or a closely related sector
- A strong understanding of waste contracts, regulatory requirements, permits, and how these translate into operational delivery
- The ability to interpret complex contractual requirements and clearly explain the operational "why" behind them
- Excellent attention to detail, a compliance‑led mindset, and the confidence to work independently in a field‑based role
