An excellent locum opportunity is available for an experienced Social Worker to join Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council’s Duty and Assessment Team. You will respond to new referrals, conduct assessments in line with statutory requirements, and work closely with families and partner agencies to ensure the best outcomes. Key Responsibilities / What You Will Do

• Respond promptly to new referrals and safeguarding concerns.
• Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with legislation and local procedures.
• Conduct Section 47 enquiries where significant harm is suspected.
• Work directly with families to identify strengths, needs, and appropriate support plans.
• Collaborate with education, health, police, and partner agencies to secure best outcomes.
• Participate in strategy meetings, child protection conferences, and planning meetings.
• Maintain accurate and detailed case notes and records.
• Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare of children at all times.

Requirements / Candidate Criteria

Essential

• Qualified Social Worker with recognised Social Work degree or equivalent.
• Social Work England registration.
• Experience in safeguarding, assessment, or duty teams.
• Strong understanding of children’s legislation and safeguarding frameworks.
• Excellent assessment, analytical, and report‑writing skills.
• Ability to manage a fast‑paced and dynamic caseload.

Desirable

• Experience within a Duty & Assessment or MASH team.
• Knowledge of child protection procedures and early help pathways.
• Multi‑agency safeguarding experience.
