An excellent locum opportunity is available for an experienced Social Worker to join Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council’s Duty and Assessment Team. Key Responsibilities / What You Will Do
- Respond promptly to new referrals and safeguarding concerns.
- Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with legislation and local procedures.
- Conduct Section 47 enquiries where significant harm is suspected.
- Work directly with families to identify strengths, needs, and appropriate support plans.
- Collaborate with education, health, police, and partner agencies to secure best outcomes.
- Participate in strategy meetings, child protection conferences, and planning meetings.
- Maintain accurate and detailed case notes and records.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare of children at all times.
Requirements / Candidate Criteria
Essential
- Qualified Social Worker with recognised Social Work degree or equivalent.
- Social Work England registration.
- Experience in safeguarding, assessment, or duty teams.
- Strong understanding of children’s legislation and safeguarding frameworks.
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to manage a fast‑paced and dynamic caseload.
Desirable
- Experience within a Duty & Assessment or MASH team.
- Knowledge of child protection procedures and early help pathways.
- Multi‑agency safeguarding experience.
